When we arrived in San Pedro we stayed at an "Apartahotel," which was basically a studio apt with a small fridge and stove. It had Tv, internet, and above all....a/c. We had the option of living there for about $600/mo but it was just too small. We toured around 6 apts and quickly learned that unfurnished meant no stove, no fridge, no a/c. We found one furnished apt that had a whirlpool fridge and stove (YAY), washing machine, and furniture! Seeing it was cheaper than the unfurnished apts we quickly took it. Some things we've learned about building here and that screened windows are rare, when it rains water leaks through the windows, and the only way to work with concrete walls is to knock out a big hole. The first "luxury" we will be investing in is screens. It is so stifling hot here that you have to have your windows open or your house becomes an oven. But the consequences to having your windows open all day is tons of mosquitos and spiders...yikes. Since that's how the last owners lived we have a huge spider problem. We moved in last monday and have spent the last week killing spiders and sanitizing everything in sight. Did I mention we painted our bedroom?...It was princess pink. Good news is that we finally have finished a majority of the cleaning and our screens are coming tomorrow! Living in a different country is an interesting experience. Other Americans have told us the first few months are rough but after that you'll be fine.

You can get a LOT of american groceries here...ie..oreos, cake mixes, candy bars
They make really good pizza and fried chicken!
There are a LOT of Americans going to the University
