YAY! Well, as most of your probably know by now, Dave and I recently (as in a few days ago) moved to the Dominican Republic! Dave is pursuing dental school at UCE in San Pedro de Macoris. The last 6 weeks involved selling our car, furniture, donating countless bags to DI, leaving wonderful jobs, and saying so long to everyone we knew. Talk about a whirlwind. Whirlwinds have not been uncommon though to us as Dave's tried to pursue dentistry. In a way that could only be made possible by Heavenly Father, we have been directed to many paths that have led us here.
As a good friend of ours that was a past mission president once said "He must have one heck of a transfer board." Just to give you a little taste of how the stars aligned...
Dave left BYU for 2 years to gain experience as a dental assistant in San Francisco. He never planned on staying that long but felt it was where he needed to be at the time. He planned on going straight to dental school from there but was led to finish his degree at BYU. He began BYU August 2007, coincidentally (but not so coincidentally) I finished my mission November 2007. We met winter semester and were married during the fall. I landed my dream internship at the UofU physical rehab and we moved to SLC. Dave sent out resumes and was called back by a dentist who was had gone to school with Dave's boss in San Francisco. He was hired and was able to be added to the list of employees to go on a humanitarian trip to the Dominican Republic very last minute. On the trip he had the opportunity to tour the dental school there, hear lectures, meet the dean, and make good friends with the dean's son. Years later after countless applications to dental schools a friend inspired us to look into foreign schools and since we already knew a good one we researched it. The rest is history. I could go on for pages about how Dave's mission started it all or how us getting married made it a perfect fit for this move...but alas, it is far too mindboggling. We are just grateful to know that Heavenly Father has it all worked out.
